Effectiveness of a Rational Emotive Behavioral Counseling Program in Improving Psychological Quality of Life among Expatriate Female Teachers

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a rational emotional behavioural counselling program in improving the psychological quality of life for female teachers who are working in Dhofar Governorate schools and they are from outside it. The sample of the study consisted of (20) female teachers who obtained the lowest scores on the psychological quality of a life questionnaire, then they were divided randomly into two equivalent groups (experimental group and control group) each of which includes (10) female teachers, and then the program was applied on the experimental group without the control group to improve their psychological quality of life. The researchers used the psychological quality of life questionnaire prepared by (Ryff et al., 2006) translated by Abdelwareth and Mohammed (2009), and a rational emotive behavioural counselling program prepared by the researchers.

The study results found that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) between the mean rank scores of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test on the questionnaire in favour of the post-test. There were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) between the mean rank scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post-test on the questionnaire in favour of the experimental group. These results indicated the effectiveness of the counselling program in improving the psychological quality of life of Omani female teachers. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) between the mean rank scores of the experimental group in the post-test and the follow-up test on the psychological quality of the life questionnaire. This demonstrated the continuity effectiveness of the counselling program in improving the psychological quality of life of Omani female teachers working in basic education schools in Dhofar governorate.
