Abstract

This study aimed at detecting the effectiveness of a Gestalt counseling program in reducing communication apprehension among those attending the Unit of Electronic Crimes due to being exposed to emotional blackmail. In order to achieve the study objectives, the study was applied to a descriptive sample that consisted of (76) females in order to identify the level of emotional blackmail and communication apprehension. The researcher developed two scales: the scale of emotional blackmail and the scale of communication apprehension. The researcher also developed a Gestalt counseling program that consisted of 14 counseling sessions. The counseling program was applied for two months. The study results showed that the level of emotional blackmail and communication apprehension among the females attending the Unit of Electronic Crimes was medium. The results also revealed that the females to whom the counseling program was applied experienced a decrease in the levels of communication apprehension in comparison with those who didn't attend the program. The follow-up stage after one month also revealed that the females in the experimental group maintained a certain level of the decreased communication apprehension. In the light of the results, the researchers recommended the necessity of using the counseling program in order to reduce the communication apprehension among the females exposed to emotional blackmail.
