Abstract

The Attitudes of Chinese Students in Jordan Toward Learning Arabic Language

This study aimed at investigating the attitudes of Chinese students in Jordan toward learning Arabic language, and whether there were statistical significant differences at the level (α= 0.05) in their attitudes due to the variables of academic specialization, study level, and to the interaction between them. To achieve the aims of the study, the researchers constructed Arabic learning attitudes scale consisted of (30) items, equally distributed into three domains; behavioral, cognitive and affective domains. The sample of the study consisted of (182) undergraduate Chinese students who enrolled in the specializations of Arabic and Sharia & Islamic studies purposefully selected from Jordanian & Yarmouk Universities at the first semester of academic year 2019/2020. The results of the study revealed that the attitudes of Chinese students in Jordan toward learning Arabic language as a whole were positive, where the behavioral domain came firstly with positive attitude, followed by emotional domain with positive attitude, and lastly, the cognitive domain was with neutral attitude. The results also showed that there were no statistical significant differences at the level (α=0.05) in Chinese students learning Arabic language attitudes due to the variables of academic specialization, study level and to the interaction between them. In light of these results, some recommendations were introduced.
